The immediate source of DeGault’s miniatures was undoubtedly a series of engravings by Sebastien Le Clerc (1637-1714) of Le Brim’s paintings. They were reissued in Paris in 1784: it is thus possible that the miniatures on this box are later than the apparent date of the box itself
